WellTell

Know when your well is low!

WellTell

WellTell is a device that measures and displays the amount of water in a residential water well. It consists of two required nodes and three optional nodes: The display node and sensor node are required to form the network. The USB node, repeater node, and pump relay node may be added to a network as needed. These 5 nodes communicate using the ArticNet protocol over a 2.4 GHz direct sequence spread spectrum RF data link.

WellTell Specifications:

  • Visual display of well water level
  • 8 LEDs indicate 8 water levels
  • 2.4GHz Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum
  • ArticNet wireless sensor network
    • Display node - Gives visual indication of water level
    • Sensor node - Monitors and transmits water level
    • Repeater node - Extends the range of the wireless network
    • Pump relay node - Controls power to the pump, preventing pump burn-out
    • USB node - PC interface to the ArticNet
  • Line-of-sight range up to 200 feet
  • AC or DC powered - 1 year or more battery life
  • FCC ID: Pending

Display Node

The display node is placed in a conspicuous location in the home. It shows the level of water in the well on its LED display, with one LED for each electrode in the well. Dry electrodes are unlit and wet electrodes are lit to indicate the level of water in the well.

The display node is powered by an AC power pack.

Sensor Node

The sensor node is installed at the well head. It is hard wired to the 8 electrodes in the well and communicates with the display node via the RF link. Several times per minute the sensor node reads the status of the electrodes and transmits this data to the display node.

The sensor node is battery powered, having approximately 1 year battery life.

USB Node

The USB node is hard wired to a PC's USB port and communicates with the wireless ArticNet. The USB node is used to monitor and log data from the ArticNet network.

The USB node obtains its power from the PC.

Repeater Node

The repeater node is used to extend the range of the wireless network. It repeats master beacons and transfers slave data back to the master.

The repeater node can be battery or AC powered as needed.

Pump Relay Node

The pump relay node resides in the water equipment room in the home. It controls a relay to switch the power to the well pump on command from the master node. The pump relay node housing has a 3 position manual override switch that can remove power from the pump (Off), supply power to the pump (On), or allow the pump relay node to control power to the pump (Node).

Normally, with the override switch in the 'Node' position, the network will command power to the pump on. If the master detects an out-of-water condition it will command power to the pump off to prevent pump damage.

The pump node is AC powered.
